My wife and I needed a short break from reality recently and decided to take our friend's advice and stay at the La Posada Hotel in Laredo for a weekend. Well it was great advice and only a 2 hour drive from our home in San Antonio ; just what the doctor ordered.

As a historic boutique hotel, La Posada's guest rooms are built around four historic buildings, with the main building built in 1916. The La Posada's architecture is impressive, with beautiful Spanish colonial workmanship, fountains, courtyards and arches. In 2007, the the La Posada completed a major renovation with a newly designed lobby and restored guest rooms. We stayed in a beautifully appointed suite on the concierge floor overlooking the the Rio Grande river. I was told later that the La Posada Hotel was voted the #1 hotel in Texas in 2007 by Expedia. Also, the room rates were very reasonable considering their quality.
